Q) Should a power chair be loaded on the wheelchair lift forward or backwards? A) According to Lazaro & Noel, LLC in Johnstown, PA the chair should go on the lift backwards, allowing the heaviest center of gravity of the chair and the passenger to be closest to the vehicle.
Q) How does someone become trained to drive a bus for a public school system? A) Through the operator or school district, whomever is providing the school bus service.
Q) Where does an agency receive child passenger safety according to the Executive Office of Health and Human Services and the Human Service Transportation? A) Many of the seat manufactures offer a seat with an integrated child safety seat. Local police departments also offer a safety seat day. MArtap recommends you check with your local police department. Trainer must be certified by the State Police Department.
Q) Is there a list of the type of license required for particular vehicles? Specifically the types of endorsements needed on the CDL for a particular size vehicle. A) The Registry of Motor Vehicles has the information regarding this question in a publication explaining the Commercial Drivers License (CDL) program; the requirements, applications, testing, etc. Another suggestion is to contact the Department of Telecommunications and Energy (DTE). DTE is the Massachusetts regulatory authority for transportation. 617-305-3559.
Q) The FMCSA has safety oversight of commercial vehicles. If a van exceeds 10,000 pounds of GVWR does the driver need a medical card? If they operate a motor vehicle designed or used to transport 9 to 15 passengers they need a medical card? Who pays for the physical? A) For more information about the Federal Motor Carriers Safety Administration (FMCSA) contact www.fmcsa.dot.gov.
Q) Is it true that the certification period for the American Heart Association and America Red Cross is different? A) True. Our recommendation is to follow the guidelines from the organization/agency that certifies your drivers. The information provided is a guideline only.
